The Báb

Several years prior to Bahá’u’lláh’s mission to unify mankind, in order that all men would come to regard the earth as but one country and mankind its citizens, another Messenger of God appeared in Persia to prepare the people for the coming of Bahá’u’lláh and His great Teachings and the dawn of this new cycle of human development. For six years, the Báb taught that the Promised Day had come and prepared the people to recognize Bahá’u’lláh and accept His Teachings. Tens of thousands accepted the Message of the Báb.

The powerful government and clergy of Persia, however, rose against the Báb and His Teachings. Over twenty thousand of His followers were put to death, as part of a systematic campaign to exterminate this new Cause. The Báb Himself was martyred in Tabriz, Persia, at the age of 31, by a regiment of soldiers ordered by the government to execute the Báb. The Báb’s remains were eventually placed in a beautiful Shrine at the World Center of the Bahá’í Faith in Haifa, Israel.
